BUNKER-​​BUSTER NUKE FUNDS CUT

Congress has cut in half the Bush administration’s bud­get for the Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator — a nuclear bomb designed to wipe out under­ground bunkers.
Now, $7.5 mil­lion will go to the project next year, instead of the $15 mil­lion requested, Global Security Newswire notes. Congress also trimmed $4 mil­lion off of a $6 mil­lion request for low-​​yield nuclear weapons research, and cut $12 mil­lion from a $23-​​million request for build­ing a new nuclear war­head pit pro­duc­tion facil­ity.
