ARMY BUILDS SIM EARTH

The U.A. Army is build­ing its own mas­sively mul­ti­player Internet game — a Sims Online-​​like planet taken “from a real-​​world ter­rain data­base and… drawn to the same scale” as Earth, the BBC reports.
So far the arti­fi­cial world is empty — only Kuwait City has been mod­eled. But there’s more to come.
“The empha­sis in the arti­fi­cial Earth will be on human inter­ac­tion rather than con­flicts involv­ing lots of mil­i­tary hard­ware,” Robert Gehorsam, with the gam­ing com­pany There, tells the Beeb. “Combat will be a part of the game. But it is also intended to let the Army sim­u­late intel­li­gence work as well as patrols, plan­ning and work­ing with indige­nous pop­u­la­tions. “
