RUMMY HEARTS MISSILE DEFENSE

“Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld Wednesday called a fledg­ling U.S. bal­lis­tic mis­sile defense sys­tem in Alaska a tri­umph for the Bush admin­is­tra­tion ‘over pes­simism and skep­ti­cism,’” Reuters reports.
That’s right, folks. The prob­lem with the mis­sile defense sys­tem isn’t that it has flunked many of its rigged tests. The prob­lem is that we’re not cheer­ing loud enough.
THERE’S MORE: Despite his unpar­al­leled admi­ra­tion for the anti-​​missile pro­gram, Rummy isn’t quite ready to flip the switch on the sys­tem. “He is still work­ing out the rules dic­tat­ing when and under whose author­ity to fire a new sys­tem to pro­tect the United States from mis­sile attack, and is await­ing a final assess­ment about the system’s readi­ness to begin oper­a­tions,” accord­ing to the Washington Post.
