AIR FORCE: SATELLITE JAMMER READY

The U.S. Air Force is ready to start jam­ming enemy satel­lites. So says ISR Journal, which reports that the Counter Communications System (CounterCom), a radio frequency-​​based sys­tem to dis­rupt com­mu­ni­ca­tions satel­lites, has been declared oper­a­tional by the American mil­i­tary.
CounterCom is clas­si­fied, so there’s not a whole lot of details float­ing around about the pro­gram. But ISR Journal does say that the $75 mil­lion “sys­tem is sim­i­lar to other ground based elec­tronic war­fare gear and is based largely on com­mer­cially avail­able com­po­nents, accord­ing to [Air Force] Space Command offi­cials.“
As reg­u­lar Defense Tech read­ers know, the Air Force has been get­ting increas­ingly inter­ested in how to take out orbiters. Not just ones from enemy coun­tries. But satel­lites from neu­trals, and pri­vate com­pa­nies, too.
