A fixed aerostat to monitor or survey movements and actions is one thing but to bring a slow moving fully operational 2 man blimp, as the contractors wanted during OIF2, was not very intelligent. The need to rapidly clear airspace is a reality in today’s combat and a 5 mph blimp just can’t perform in the fast moving requirements of today.
