$18 mil PDA? Is that for dilivery of these things or just R&D? ‘Cause my PDA does 90% of that and was $399 with a one year contract from Verizon. And it runs windows so the adition of some software and it should be able to do everything else they ask. (I even use it to connect to my VPN at work with a Secure ID card).
That’s for ‘design and development’ of a new type of PDA, and not the cost of just one unit!
First, it has to be militarizxed and ruggedized, which means it needs to withstand typical Military usage (remember that American Samsonite commercial with the Gorilla?)…
Try bouncing your Verizon PDA around a bit, and see how well it works! :->
Second, it also has to deal with ‘Type I’ Security Protocols, so half that budget will probably be eaten up just getting the NSA to tell the prospective Vendor just what encryption scheme their device needs to use!
This is a ridiculous amount of taxpayer money being overspent, ie. The $300 screwdriver and the $600 toilet seat. The military PDA? Just sit on the $600 toilet and send OUR money down the crapper and the $300 screwdrver, well I feel like I’m being screwed by the Goverment wasteful spending. The private sector can do this without this amount of money being wasted.
How about a new Bomb proof troop carrier that will keep our men and women from being blown away in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now that would be money well spent, get your priorities in order!
