India is probably the only country in the world whose defense acquisition programs are worse than ours. Ludicrously delayed and overbudget design projects that never get shut down, and inability to stick to their requirements, endless delays in decision-making…they’re almost a parody of the US DoD.
Prediction: politics will drive this decision just like it has all the others. The Gripen will not fly over India unless Pakistan buys some. A US entrant will win the order if the nuke deal goes through. France is only going through the motions in case Congress balks at excusing India from the NPT.
The UAE may have “pledged” to dump the deal.
But it’s talking out of both sides of its mouth.
It actually closed the deal.
