For those of you wondering … the pictured chopper is an AH-64A from the S.C. National Guard, seen in Mosul, Iraq, in 2005. The S.C. Guard experimented with the gray color scheme, but only temporarily, and the Army has decided to stick with the old olive drab scheme.

Considering how freaking vital whirlys have been to the past, oh, 40 years of US Army doctrine; cuts to these sensible, well-executed program strikes me as just a bit insane. Of all the potential places to make a cut, the Helicopter program should be among the last on the list.

Bottom line Air Force has it Air & Space mission. And the army has ground. The only change to the laws that might take place it the creation of a Space Force and take that role away from the Air Force. “I wouldn’t like to see that, but possible.“
But every branch has fixed wing aircraft.

Is that a pic of an Apache painted in Navy grey? I know there was talk of navalized Apaches for attack missions against small boats, but nothing ever came of it.
