I continue the discussion on my web site. Basically, let's take Hersh at his word. What does it mean for us? I make a case that if we think within the correct boundaries and within categories (what would our purpose be for war with Iran and how would we accomplish our mission), bombing may not be such a bad idea. Hersch's theme in his last several articles about Iran has been that the Pentagon is in shambles ideologically and has no idea how to conduct a war with Iran. They may be debating, but I don't buy the idea that they're lost.

Lots of highly predictable allegations, not much evidence.
Let's see if they can come up with something concrete to substantiate some it it. Otherwise, it looks like a desperate attempt to widen the scope of the conflict.

Hersh's scenario sounds plausible to me. Regardless of his unnamed sources, his track record is pretty good over the long term.
An interesting angle to the piece is that the "do it ourselves" ethic in this administration seems to have taken a backseat to a more pragmatic method of engagement. Evidence of learning here.

Given his extensive use of un-named sources, I haven't believed Hersch for quite awhile. On the other hand, the Israeli's credibility is also in the toilet since they claimed they mistook the USS Liberty for a horse freighter.
It's tempting to say let them all go to Hell but the truth is they'll probably take us with them.

This reminds me of the Germans testing out new tactics and weapons during the Spanish civil war. The Iranians probably gained significant insights from this Lebanon experience via Hezbollah reports.

Quite similiar to China's supplying N. Korea with arms and advisors during the Korean conflict.
