You are warned... One thing where I think Gates will make a huge difference is in talk about Iran. Gates appears to be very pragmatic. As such, he obviously understands what a disaster a US or Israeli attack on Iranian facilities would be, and all the myriad of options Iran has to respond in ways which would make the US military and government completely miserable. Thus I would expect a significant downplay of the Attack Iran retoric and leaks, as he understands that the retoric without the ability to back it up is counterproductive, and that actually backing up the rhetoric would be a disaster.
