Agree, Bush laid out a new technique for securing baghdad "gated community--see latimes) thats nice but what about the civil war? Is he saying that if Maliki cools the Shite malitias, the US will mop up the insurency in Baghdad? Ok, this will work until the second the Golden Dome is hit again, then the ethnic cleansing returns. Our other chioce is to pull back and allow the shites to cleanse the sunnis. What a mess.

Surge??? What a load of horse sh**! This is a civil war, not a counter-insurgency. I have yet to read an FM orFMFM (thats field manual or fleet Marine field manual) that covers operations during a civil war. Perhaps its taught at the Command Colleges, I don't know thats above my pay grade, but this is utter non-sense. And the very thought that we will be depending on the Iraqi government to make this work makes my stomach turn. Remember the kidnapped soldier that (I believe he was with the 4th ID) the Army was searching desperately for? Well the Iraqi government wouldn't let them go where they needed to. Betcha didn't hear about the warrior that was gunned down by an Iraqi soldier, one that was supposedly working along side American forces. All you kool-aide drinkers that will support failed policies just because of political affiliation desperately need a frontal lobotomy

Dude, DS, you can still find unopened Surge around on ebay. It was pretty tasty, but I could almost feel it rotting my teeth.
As for Bush strategy, I'm glad the White House is experiencing a new relationship with realism. It feels like this change in attitude has come about a year or two too late though.
My main concern is that the violence in Iraq is no longer being caused by 'violent extremists from multiple communities,' but instead is the result of potent political factions vying for power.
I'm afraid of what will happen if the ground truth is that even nonviolent Iraqi leaders and their supporters are hesitant to invest in the democratic process.

Surge was a great soda. I used to drink them all the time when I worked the overnight shift. That's the only 'surge' that's good these days...
