iPod Armor Update

DT just received an update on the iPod armor story. I can’t vouch for the authenticity of the post, but thought I’d pass it along anyway since many of you have asked about Apple’s follow-up, etc.

The iPod was how Kevin Garrad found out he was shot. This is the real story.
ipod-web.jpg

Kevin said he got into the fight with the insurgent and afterwards he did not know he was even shot. He said he returned to his bunk after the patrol, put on his earbuds and began to clean his weapon.

He said: you get into a ritual out there.

No music came on. He dug around in the pockets where he kept the iPod and pulled out the twisted hunk of metal that is in the pictures. He said that was how he found out that he had been shot during the fight. He was happy that his armor worked.

He said the upgraded armor he was wearing could stop the AK-47 round. It was not the newest armor that is in Iraq now, but it was an upgrade. This was his second iPod that he had brought to Iraq. The first had been damaged earlier and the store would not replace it, even with the additional warranty he purchased.

The pictures are what happens when an AK-47 bullet hits an iPod.

As an Army Retired 1sg, I thank personnaly every serviceman & woman who are serving in our Armed Forces. If the Democrats had been in power during WWII we would all be speaking a different language, If the Democrats win the Battle In Iraq & Afganastan the World is in Serious Trouble.
The Democratic Party Today reminds me of the Jane Fonda who betrayed our troops and should have been
    sent to prison for Treason

Politics is once again driving the military “ala Vietnam”, current administration is no different than Congress in this dog fight! We got the mission, give us 100% of your support plus some and get the hell out of the way. We’ll call when we’re finished and it won’t take years

    To Roger,
You conveniently narrow down our presence in Iraq to a polical debate between two parties. Look at the gas pumps and see the real reason behind our presence there.
I was paying $1.39 to get me and my life to Tampa when I was mobilized in 2002 to help find nuclear weapons in Sadam’s Iraq. Now what do you pay for you gas? I am over seas, so I don’t know, but over here the base charges me $3.45 a gallon.
You just keep conveniently thinking the Republican party is going to keep America’s dignity and integrity in tact while they encourage America’s best to die for their portfolios. I hope you’re not in charge of anything, or more important, anyone.
    Your bother in arms.

dude, the democrats were in power during WWII…his name was FDR.…remember? served 4 terms? polio? seriously, learn something about who you obviously hate, before you start to hate them…by showing such disrespect towards other members of your own country you give other republicans (or whatever you are) a very bad name.

Yes the Democrats were in charge during WWII; however, it was a much stronger, more nationalistic party then. As regards the gentleman’s impression of Jane Fonda, I completely concur with his assessment. I am a Vietnam veteran and “Hanoi Jane” should still be in prison!

I’m an old salt, so my comment must begin with, “this is no shit”, seeing that ipod photo jarred loose a memory of seeing something similar. While in triage at 3rd Field Army Hostpital in Saigon, the guy next to me pulled out a Ronson Lighter, that had taken a bullet for him as well…priorites change with the generation…we couldn’t wait to smoke our next cigarette, while now they can’t wait to hear their next tune.

Similar thing happened to my step-dad in Vietnam. He was in the Army and just bought a new camera. While it was in his breast pocket the camera took a bullet and stopped it. I seen the camera and it’s amazing.
The camera saved his life but he was mad because he had just bought it. (Don’t look for a modern day plastic digital camera to do the same thing).

honestly.…..i really doubt an ipod will stop a 7.62mm round. if it can then maybe we should all be wearing giant ipods for body armor! instead of I.B.A. it would be I.P.A. (i-pod-armor).

This is for Matthew who believes that everyone is ignorant but him. The Patriot Act is far more overreaching than is necessary. To suspend Habeas Corpus is to allow our government to become the KGB. To be held anywhere without access to an attorney is unlawful and immoral. Wake up kid. Getting back to the iPod, which this blog was meant to be about. I’ve heard similar stories from other wars. My question is — who is the store or manufacturer that refused to replace our brother’s first iPod. I would like to boycott those SOB’s. It’s amazing how people can turn their backs on our combat veterans even while they are still in hot zones. How can those creeps sleep at night?

With all the money the Apple Company makes, you would think they would honor their warranties, especially to a soldier who is risking his life for America!

if you say you have a “warranty” that replaces the object in which you sell such as the iPod. hold up to it.. because the soldiers that these go to go to people who dont have a warranty on their life. people cant be replaced, these technological advancements can!
