Google Earth Focuses on Darfur

Google and Darfur.jpg

In a noteworthy use of what we in the tech business call a “killer app”, Google has teamed with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and is using its online mapping service to call attention to atrocities in the Darfur region of Sudan.

Detail on this unique use of Google Earth technology can be found in the video below. Although the plight of those in Darfur inarguably demands the world’s attention, DT presents this to highlight the power of tech employed to its potential, not for political reasons.

For more information and to employ our own killer app we invite you to watch the news clip on this topic by clicking on this sentence … the blue one right here with the line under it.

Interesting disclaimer. Is being against genocide seen as politically controversial in the US now?

Only if you believe that George Clooney’s motivation is that he’s anti-Bush, Ben.
Don’t be naive … or don’t pretend to be naive. If this isn’t a political issue then why aren’t US military forces there to ensure the genocide stops?

Unlike Iraq (and possibly Iran), they have nothing that we want, so there’s no value to us in getting involved.
The same logic can be applied to why we’re fighting the GWOT in the Middle East (home to most of the world’s oil) and not in North Korea (who are probably alot close to a nuclear device and a delivery system).

    I find this really disturbing.

How so, ZeusIrae? And please don’t suggest that the statement implies we don’t care about the suffering there. We posted this because we believe it has the power to help. We just wanted to get out ahead of a political debate that has nothing to do with the use of this tech.

I feel this is showing technology being employed to its potential for _humanitarian_ purposes, not political ones.
It’s a demonstration of using technology to open up the story of people in a life– and livelihood-threatening situation, using both geospatial information and narrative techniques to educate people. Showing people is often a lot more effective than simply telling them.
What we do about it, as individuals, groups or nations, is left up to us to decide. Having the information there to explore is (or should be) apolitical.

Shaiya, what a beautiful name. I like its name very much and it has more beautiful characters and wonderful menu. I remembered that at the beginning of playing this Shaiya gold game I was attracted by its name, charactera and menu. Especially the story of Shaiya.

Other players can, I think I can too, many players said that BB can let us get more flyff gold, if you do not have enough flyff gold in the game, and then you can not do many things, in the reality world also like this. But I more like through my effort to get the success, that success can let me memorable forever.
