Make your M9 Meaner

Wor4-web.jpg

After nearly two years of effort, and constant revisions based on feedback from military and law enforcement users, an inventor based in Florida has devised a new rail system that can be retrofitted to the M9 Beretta standard milspec pistol.

The rail system, developed by David Woroner of Survival Consultants Intl., allows the user to fit a wide array of sighting systems, laser pointers, pepper spray adaptors and other components to the military (and police) issued sidearm. Dave has helped me on a variety of stories over the years dealing with weapons development, body armor technology and private security contractor issues and Im happy to see that his Wor4 TacRail is getting good feedback from users and from the Armys Picatinny Arsenal.

From Survival Consultants

This is the only product that is specifically designed for the Beretta “type” pistol (M9-92FS), though it will fit many other Beretta licensed out designs, such as the Taurus series of pistols of similar specifications (as well as a multitude of S. African to S. American pistol licensees

What our research revealed is that, overwhelmingly, shooters wanted the ability to add lower railed devices such as lights, lasers, etc. and the possibility of adding an “optical sighting system” on the top rail. In the design of the TacRail, SCI recognized that any “device” (like an optic system) can fail. So SCI introduced a slot into the design so that the iron sights are still completely active and useable. The other specification requested was to make the design so that “the slide can be removed, for field cleaning, without removing the TacRail.”

Im including this post to see what feedback our DT readers have on this component system. One of the things I like most about Daves TacRail is the strike face on the special operations version of the Wor4. Its a pointed knob just under the barrel that can be used to say that special hello to a resistant bad guy.

I wish him luck and am curious to see what yall have to say about it.

– Christian

Such crap… if you load 3 or 4 accessories onto an M9, it’ll be so heavy that you might as well pull your M4!
And where are you going to holster that thing?
And when your sidearm’s cross-section has the approximate shape and size of the crucifix, how the hell are you going to walk around?

First off, what holster will work with that?
Secondly, who makes, and who would actually use, a rail mounted pepperspray device? Ontop of the whole, not fitting into a holster, the idea of mixing leathal and LTL force options that close together is asking for a bajillion dollar accidental death lawsuit.
And lastly, is there such a thing as a rail-to-rail adapter so you can mount your M9 on your rifle? Just think, mount it on the forarem, left side, and you no longer need a verticle grip, you can just use the barreta!, and instant ability to switch to secondary weapon, and could still mount a 203.

I dont know about you but the “special hello” I would use is a double tap to the head.
Ridiculous. Keep pistol optics to the movies

I can see this as potentially really popular at gun shows… old guys can’t see iron sights anymore and a need a place for a red-dot / holosight.
So maybe good for the gun-in-the-nightstand crowd, but probably overpriced.
I can’t image a soldier or a law officer wanting to even try to carry this thing with or without all the useless gizmo’s attached. Is there a holster that it won’t snag on?

    problems:
    – weight with accessoires
    – holster
    – would interfere with Crimson Trace lasergrip
    ( http://www.crimsontrace.com/default.asp?id=520 )
    – pistols are weapons of very, really last resort in the military and imho only for medics, senior officers and chaplains. You don’t tune your weapon of last resort with bulky & heavy add-ons … you want it to be small, light, convenient

    Hello all…
I invented the above pictured unit with “specops” or other “special utilization” in mind only, and was the “first” of many revisions. If you check the website, you will see the “first release” version, due out May 17th, is a top and bottom rail system only. What makes it unique is that it weighs no more than 4/4.7 ounces (tacrail), and how it attaches to the pistol with NO need to drill the dustcover. Utilizing a “joint compression” technique that is specifically covered in the patent.
SCI is working on the holster at this time.
We realize it is an important issue, current thinking and initial kydex/nylon holsters created have been shown to work very well when mounted on the chest, utilizing the Molles’ atchmnts. It is still something that leaves me personally thinking (and I know I’ll recieve “criticism” for this) is [why should SCI be responsible for creating the holster? Thats a third party concern…right? ] It draws smoothly, points well, is not front end heavy
(optic sight & lowerlight/laser attached.) The “entire system”, with those devices mounted still doesnt weigh much. No more than 14/17 ounces total…When testing with an SLA (never recommended.)unit, 75/100 yd consistent hits were no problem, though that is not an “intention” of this “platform”. Besides SWAT officers, and other “special utilizations”, Armored folks (Tankers) have expressed alot of interest. Wearing a “thigh rig” is an awful “snatch/snag hazard”, its alot harder to get something offa fellas chest. Finally, I’d like to thank the folks who post here, it is always good to get feedback, of any kind. What SCI can say is that the first “run” already has a waiting list of LEO’s and Mil_Ops folks.
Feel free to visit the website, drop me a line, etc… Again, I invite you to read up at the website. Best, David Woroner, Pres. SCI
(Obviously I’d like to thank Christian Lowe.)

Omg… OK, so i have a better idea. Instead of investing all that damn money in a peice of crap that is only gonna cause more problems, they might as well try to invent an implant for your eye so you can shoot laser beams out of your head. And 3 things with that rail. 1) weight. the damn m9 is heavy enough. 2) Holster? and 3) who the hell wants to put pepper spray on their rail, instead of sights? WTF? You gonna aim with the can? Or perhaps use the stream as tracers? idk…

Ok, i might buy one. But i want a mount for both an oversized boyonet (Im thing of this really cool katana i saw once), and i want a Skittle dispenser on mine. (you know, for those time when you just need a little something to put you in a good mood. Skittles are great for that)

Why does everyone want to pistolwhip the “bad guys.” I teach self-defense (empty hand, knife, and pistol) and the first thing I tell people is that firearms are a RANGED weapon. If you can hit the guy with it you are WAY too close! At that range you’re in knife-fight territory, you are at a disadvantage –even with the handgun, and you can be disarmed!
Why do you think police get the guy face down the pavement, hands behind his head, before they get anywhere near him. Naw, I’ll just go up and smack him with my handgun… that’ll make him behave. Right before he takes my weapon away and jams it up my @$$!
    Distance is your friend.

Its a start!! It looks too big, needs to be slimmed down. Special adapters or different smaller hook ups for accessories need to made and they have to be made by non-government contracted companies.
It appears it is made for standard issue components; Those standard issue components are too big, especially for a pistol.
Concentrate on rail systems for newer accessories that are smaller and that dont use standard mmiltary rail systems and it may sell.
This appears to be one of those items that may be pushed onto the troops because a “good idea” fairy pops up in the command center.
Issueing and using are two different things and could just be another waste of government resources.

Hi Folks! couldnt help but just chuck in something to think about, what your seeing pictured here IS NOT the first release model.
This was an SLA, intended for Special Operations
(SOPMOD)… if you hop over to the site, you’ll see I’ve slimmed it down to a top n bottom rail.
I’ve also made it so you can break down the pistol and clean it, all while leaving the rail in place.
*Something I havent said much about. There is one tool that dons/doffs the rail, it is held FIRMLY and not to be lost by two (2) industrial magnets. Also, he notch cut under the top rail allows for continued use of iron sights should the optics fail. The general idea, or the way I’d like to see it used is : Docter Optic up top and your choice light below.…On the SLA *(which one should never use in live fire, but I couldnt resist :) .… I was able to make clean and ez rapid hits on targets at 75 yards, no prob. So, its not the end all be all, understood.
But when I roll out the 1911 version, are you still gonna say no? :) We shall seeeee! It’s great to be in here, I accept all points of view, (even if there from Non-Shooters , just kidding..)If you have any questions whatsoever, contact me at the survivalconsultants website, and I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have.… Thank you, David Woroner, SCI

    Hi, David Woroner, SCI
I look at these comments now and get a real grin out of it! :)
Its like the “more you berate and hate me” the better I do!!!
Well, it can’t be toooo awful if Beretta licensed the lower rail only version. I’d suggest a nice cup of green tea, clean out the system, open your mind.
There is a “weight list” of what stuff would weigh, etc ON THE WEBSITE, why don’t you READ before commenting.…..I have had many people (whom are far from “keyboard commando’s”) Read That “Over There” whom said that they would never run a night op without it again.. If that ain’t good enough, well, don’t buy it :) seems like the desktop commando’s are here? Have a good one!
Green Tea is good for you! Drink it for two weeks and you’ll never want coffee again!
    Best, David Woroner, Pres./CEO SCI
