They, like many other bases in California, Texas, Illinois and New York, were closed because there are plenty of bases in other states that are much less expensive to operate. The windows of my house have been blown out twice, the soot is everywhere in my yard, my grass is black from oils, and car alarms go off all up and down the block every day. When I moved in here I had no idea the military was so obnoxious as to smell up the air and ruin the environment this far from base. They are flying at fifty feet overhead for over ten miles straight, with no regard for civilians. I am supposed to feel secure and be tolerant of this cause our servicement are fighting for my rights? What rights? It's like I live in Badgdad or something! When I moved there I enjoyed the planes as they were fun to watch. But in 2005 the planes started flying 44 feet over ground level over my property. My home is only about 14 feet high and the planes took out their landing gear right over my roof which makes one heck of a racket and wakes me up at night. Dobbins had extended Runway 11 and put me in the flight path with 84,000 planes flying out of Dobbins annually. Oh yes - the screaming noise planes like F22's also go right over my house. I could not live with the noise and moved out. I asked Dobbins to buy me out so I could get out of living in a flight path. They offered me $200 and I have to date lost over $190,000 value in my home and have had to pay rent for 5 years. My real estate agent says she can't sell my house because no one wants to live in a flight path. Oh yes - I commend our military and my house was built in 1926 - the Base came here in the 1940's. The federal District attorneys offered me a few thousand dollars in a mediation and I owe $105,000.00 on a mortgage. It is one right after the other, all day long and into the night. The house vibrates, the windows shake, and you can't even hear your television or make a phone call inside your home. It's total BS.
