The US Navy says all of their ships go 30 knots. Even when they go a lot faster. How fast a ship can go is a military secret.

Actually the ships are very likely to carry Merlins, the flight deck was specifically designed for them!
Harpoons will be carried, again the ship is fitted for them and the MOD has already announce that they will be carried. The ships only real limits at the moment are it's lack of ASW and the desistion not to fit the ships to fire Cruise.
However this can be rectified in the future as the ships are fitted for torpedo tubes (though not with them) and modules can be inserted at a later date to fire cruise.
Lastly on a recent test of the SAMPSON radar the system tracked and managed to define a firing solution for every aircraft taking off and landing at Heathrow, Glasgow, Manchester, Paris, Frankfurt and all the smaller airports in between!!

To McNab;<br

The PAAMS system is going to be very capable for area Air Defence, but there are no plans as yet to fit any TBM capability. They are unlikely to carry Merlins in the near future, and there are still no real plans to have any Harpoon as well.
In all the T45s are going to be big hulls with a very decent AAW fit, but little else until more money is given to the RN.

Afraid the Daring class is not quite as punchy as the article makes out.
