Time for the Friday Follies…
Looks like it’s getting more and more dangerous for those night owls who like to dig up IED pits on Iraq’s roads.

It kind of reminds me of the “Godzilla Vs. Bambi” movie short that they used to show on Saturday Night Live in the 70′s.All that was needed was the credits rolling watching this & then after the explosion, put up “The End.”
On a sad note, did that guy have a child with him? Was that a little boy in that clip?
I read somewhere that even before 2003 it was illegal to dig without permission in Iraq. Something about unauthorized irrigation and since 2005 digging near roads are really against the law because of the IEDs/Roadside bombs. Everyone knows it’s illegal it has been illegal for many many years. Thousands of people have died because of actions like that.
Yeah, on Liveleak.com they have lots of videos like this, There is something fasinating about watching men die, especially with high tech weapons filmed in high resoulution. I much prefer it to the grainy ones posted by the insurgents when they blow up a Hummer and you can see the soldiers burning to death, trapped in the wreakage.
Nothing like watching ‘trophy’ videos from both sides, right men?
Yep, nothing like watching insurgents die. Far better than watching insurgent-created videos–you’d have to be irrational and morally corrupt to think that Muslim extremists are at all the equivalent of American troops.
A video like this leaves little to the imagination. Videos from the other side could often be mere tricks of the camera placement. The camera is on the same side of the road as the IED so they go off and the hummvee is blocked out by dust but we don’t often know how close the humvee was because of the angle. The answer is more satelite imagery of convoy routes along with more uav and ground stations along the way.
well.. the ultimate trophy video has already been done.
the troops can go home now. there’s nothing more to see in Iraq.
and the message is more like. make love, not war.

I think there are nothing being left for these three persons. They just disappear from this world after explosion. Nothing beloging to these three persons, including their clothes, their muscles, their blood, and their bones etc., will be left after explosion. So, they are really evaporated from this world.
What about a war crime being comitted? What happened to proportional force? How about trailing em and arresting em later?
Proportional force? You’re kidding, right? Maybe we should have trailed these guys back to where they live, secretly dig a hole in their driveway and fill it with explosives, then blow them up when they drive to work the next day?
Would that have been appropriately proportional for you?
Get real.
So how much does a typical piece of ordinance cost that took those fella’s out?
Wouldn’t 3 bullets have been a lot cheaper?
Yes I understand there is a risk to a solders life etc when they go out, but those guys looked to be in the open, did not seemed to be armed other than with some shovels…. yes their purpose was bad and they got what they deserved. I am not doubting that in anyway. But one missile for guys digging a hole? Isn’t that a bit of a waste of tax payers dollars?
Paul, I bet there weren’t any soldiers nearby. Besides, one missile is cheaper than a Humvee and the lives of several soldiers.
Ok consider this my CPA/Accounting friends. An IED blows up a million dollar tank or a 100k dollar humvee with 4 soldiers they cost 100k each to train and that each have 20k in equiptment. Then you consider you launch a 100k dollar hellfire and now they are fielding Vipyr strikes that cost a fraction of that I would guess 10k to 50k because they aren’t rocket propelled and have half the size shaped charge and weight 40 percent as much. So the damage an IED team can and have done is way more than the cost of the ammunition plus it is pretty sick thinking of the cost of saving a life as how much they cost to replace so just start thinking about how much it is worth for your loved ones to get home to see you. This is also hitting people in a remote area very little chance for collateral damage and it stops the team from doing soething they could do over and over.

Very splendid
