San Fran Again

Marines-Corps Seal Plaque M.jpgFirst USS Iowa. Then high school ROTC. Then the Blue Angels. Now the US Marine Corp. How much more dis’in can the US Military take from the city and ‘burbs by the bay?
A new advertising campaign by the Marine Corp has a their Silent Drill Team (an absolutely amazing display of precision and discipline) being filmed at various places around the US. You can see the products here.
When they wanted to film, on September 11 no less, on California Street in downtown San Francisco, the group was denied a permit to film. While initial inquiries by the press to Stefanie Coyote, the executive director of the San Francisco Film Commission, received the “unavailable to comment” response, Coyote later said to KGO-TV that “traffic control was the issue.“
“Traffic control”.
So what did the Marines do? They went to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area for the final segment of its “America’s Marines” TV commercial then proceeded to New York City and filmed at Times Square where, apparently, traffic is less of an issue that in San Fran.
Yet another slap in the face of the US Military by a shrill anti-military area or a prudent exercising of civil traffic control by sage city elders?
You decide.

my brother, a marine captain in iraq, requested a state flag from governor Schwarzenegger (my brother was stationed at camp pendelton) to mount in the mess hall next to many other US state flags (states with representative troops in iraq that sent flags, often with a plaque stating that it had been flown over the state house). A response letter from the governors office told him he should buy a flag.

    Citizens,
Re: refusal of filming permit for U.S. Marine Corp, on California Street, on Sept 11.
Please note that the above referenced military organization has, as part of it’s official name; “United States”. I wish you to be reassured, that “United States” does, and will continue to, include the city of San Francisco, California; and, that the United States Marine Corp (motto “Semper Fidelis”, or “Always Faithful”), will continue to protect and serve all the citizens of that fair city.…despite your political effrontery.
In the future, perhaps it would be of help if you were made aware that this particular branch of the military, does indeed, have military police that are somewhat experienced in traffic control; should that still be an issue with you.
    thank you, citizens (alas)

“the city and ‘burbs by the bay“
Hey! Don’t drag us burbs in there. The radical left live in SF, Berkeley, and Oakland. The rest of us are merely normal left-of-center.
A favorite memory: when Jerry Brown was mayor of Oakland he gave the military permission to perform various exercises there over the strenuous objections of the anti-military crowd. He said a country has to have a military, and those in uniform would risk their lives for us if need be, and therefore the least we could do is let them practice so they might not die. It’s nice that some in the left have brains.

When I was stationed at Fort Ord, CA long ago, and when I was a patient at Letterman Army Medical Center-also long ago– I never felt any kind of ill treatment anywhere the SF Bay area. Most people were thankful and respectful, and more than one person would offer to buy a cup of coffee or a beer for a soldier. The myth that the left wing hates our soldiers is just that, a myth. I’ve only ever met one stupid young man in college who fit that stereotype, and nobody paid attention to him anyway. I’ve met more than my fair share of conservatives here in Oklahoma whose attitude about the military is ‘better you than me.’ Another point, from someone who interned in City Hall in a decent sized mid-western city–you might have a case here of a civil servant who decided that the payback in tourist dollars from a few seconds of video on a commercial isn’t the same as the payback from multiple scenes in a summer blockbuster when the city will pay tens of thousands of dollars for overtime to SFPD for coverage of this event. At least a movie compay will pay the bill the city demands.

Democrats dont hate the soldiers, in fact i would say most of them really appriciate what they do. But the democrat leaders all hate soldier, and everything a soldier stands for. So until thoose guys get kicked out of office, and stop spewing there garbage, democrats are all lumped into the Anti War crowd. if they dont like that, then they better elect some good polititions cus there are few Demo polititions that accually support the the troops and what a soldier stands for.

Two points from an SF resident:
1.) Depending on the street and the time of day I can absolutely believe that there would be traffic issues, that might not exist in NY. It’s likely the big difference is that the Marines picked a comparatively lower traffic street in NY (I imagine they were going for recognizability when they filmed, and they didn’t really take traffic into account).
2.) The legislation to ban the Blue Angels has been voted down overwhelmingly despite media whore supervisor Chris Daly trying to bring it up twice. See here.
Of course that kind of info would get in the way of your LIBRULZ HATE TEH MILITARY!!!!!!!!1!11one BS so you ignore it.

    From a SF Native:
Since when has the city ever given a damn about traffic? When it comes to anti war marches , critical mass or open boarders marches its all good and be damned if you have to get to or home from work.
So before you toss out your SF resident BS just because you moved here doesn

I am an almost lifelong resident of California. I spent most of my active duty time in California with the exception of training which took place in Tennessee.
I, undoubtedly, encountered more hostile prejudice in Tennessee for simply being a Californian then I ever did (and I don’t recall ever) for being a service person in Northern California.
News stories like this only serve the rabid anti-liberal anger merchants and to exercise divisiveness.
I am a proud Liberal, a proud Californian, and a proud Veteran. Best of all worlds!

I have less then a year and well i am sad to say i have visited San Francisco because it is led by liberalistic pigs whom hate the military and dont realize that without the Military and The arines and Navy their harbor would be sitting dcuks for an attack.

There are many people that are against our military service men and women of america but as it stands we are still “United States” Marines, Army, Air Force, And Navy, There are still People out there willing to fight for our freedoms our religions etc.… I have enlisted in The United States Marines and i ship off to paris island in may so i to can join the Marine legacy even though SF denied rights for a movie to be filmed to help in the recruitment of those still intrested in protecting our fine nation does not mean we need to condem SF it is still a Free Country and the Marines and all the other branchs of Military will be there to protect it it took alot for me to open my eyes but i have and i am the 3rd generation of a marine in my family and i beleive that this country is worth fighting for it is worth every single state and every city that includes them I will allways be faithful to my country another good reason the Marine corps is my Choice and i agree some people that have enlisted and have served do take alot for granted yes the military deserves some respect but they are still americans first that is what everyone needs to think about

Don’t diss our military. They have the balls to go protect our country from the dicks that want to kill us. They do what no others have the balls to do. Especially the marines. First to fight first to die last to leave. I fully respect all military personell. Semper fi. R.I.P +
