The money for Iraq is largely borrowed money, and interest on the federal debt is becoming a larger percentage of the federal budget every year. While I thank the President for my tax breaks, the result is that we simply do not have the funds to throw into Iraq indefinitely, no matter how just the cause. We need a plan to get out, whether it's now or ten years from now, publicly announced or made in secret, we need to plan so that the army can plan and budget accordingly.

While I agree with many of the sentiments expressed in other comments, the army is not alone in its budget crunch. I think it's interesting to see the cat fight going on. Especially since Geren was once a congressman himself. The Defense Bill is ALWAYS delayed and there is ALWAYS "serious concern" about it. "A decision from Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), aggravated by the disaster response to Hurricane Katrina, has been slow in coming. No date is assigned yet for bringing the defense authorization bill back to the floor.

It’s just for show and happens EVERY year.
