The Mentally Gifted program has more than likely decreased the number of new creative science since the Inquisition. An original or nor orthidox thought disturbs the straight line to get more money by following the PROGRAM outlined toward STANDARD TESTS. If, it is not standard, then is it not orthidox: hence, disruptive. Euler and Edison were just non standard students and were exiled as disruptive. Our children learn what is considered necessary on the national level, but it leaves out innovation and creativity. The reason why we're not 'pumping out' engineers and scientists is because our kids aren't able to discover their own natural abilities. 'Brainiacs' are taught to study selected (and usually out-dated) textbooks, instead of reasearching through history for new ideas. I would rather pay for my childs' quality education than get a mediocre one for free. Our education system today is based on standardized testing. Our system is designed to focus on underperformers and raise them to minimal employability and functionality at a brutally high cost. Our best and brightest go into fields like law, ethnic studies, art, etc. Meanwhile, the Chinese crank out competent engineers and scientists by the hundreds of thousands. We respond by doubling down on failure by increasing the funding of our miserable system without major reforms. Our children spend less time in school, benefit less from the hours they spend in school and cost more to 'educate' than any other country. This is the greatest national security disaster in America right now, ranking far higher than all of our procurement problems combined. Our education system is a nightmare.
