But that is a door breacher I guess.

I sure remember when the internet was abuzz with reports that insurgents in Iraq weren’t afraid of the m16 but a shotgun was something that really got to their morale. Like the article says, that straight bolt handle doesn't seem to be what you'd call ergonomic. Pump actions are -- tried, and true.
FWIW, Idaho National Labs designed an underbarrel breaching accessory that put the shotgun trigger on the bolt/slide. You could thoretically operate both the M4 and the shotgun at the same time. They apparently licensed it to ProSWAT, which is offering a redesigned version as "The Greeter".
I can see the need for a breaching weapon. Not too sure a dedicated 40mm round couldn't do the job, but I guess if 12 ga. ain't broke, don't fix it. Just seems the same goes for a non-pump shotgun. Like I said, they're tried, and true. Why reinvent the wheel?

Yeah, there might be something a little off about the MASS. What ever happened to the U.S. Army's rifle "shoot-off" competition? Anyone know?

The MASS looks a bit heavy & awkward hanging from the front of an M-4. Is it?<br
