In a perfect world, the engineers would go to the drawing board and build another perfect tanker that includes airlift. Aside from the cost issues, the air force will lose air refueling capability...period. The size of the A330 is prohibitive to the mounting and sustaining any sizable air campaign. If we want to bet the come and say no future war will require a sizable tanker support force, then this "may" be an acceptable risk. Me, I prefer being the most capable force in the world. Booms/drogues in the air will always be paramount. On a given ramp that will will hold 4 A330's, you can beddown 9 767's. This gives much more capability and flexibility while allowing you to put more aircraft in more locations. the offload that the a330 brings airborne from 4 aircraft a a given ramp, pales in comparison to that of the 767. This is just one of the many shortfalls the A330 brings.

I truly hope the decision for the A330 is tossed.
