Yeah, the people who pay attention to Nostradamus and the Mayan calendar are nuts too.
The Bible is only accurate when you look at it through the lens of history. We can look back and say “oh, see, here this prophecy from 1500 BC fits with what happened here in 500 BC.” The Bible is not accurate when people have tried to use it to predict the future. People who lived at the time of Jesus interpreted his prophecies to mean that the second coming would happen in just a few years. People in the middle ages thought the end of the world was approaching. In the 1800s there were people who believed they were living in the end times. In the 1960s and 1970s, people thought Yuri Gellar was the Antichrist. All of these people thought they had found scriptures that supported their beliefs. Well…
SPOILERS
Jesus did not return in 40 AD. The world didn’t end in the middle ages. Martin Luther wasn’t the Antichrist. The Rapture didn’t take place in the 1800s.

Come on,we could have just as easily quoted Nostradamus(who people seem to take seriously & quote a lot) as far as “prophesy” goes. Look how many people are taking seriously the Mayan calender that the world will end in 2012.HG Wells predicted that World War III will begin in Basra,Iraq.
People have researched what modern nations are today in the areas of the people who occupied the same space during Old Testament times.
If the U.S. in the future was to disappear & another nation take its place,we could today only describe that future nation by landmarks we recognise today.As far as predictions go,the bible has been pretty spot on.
By the way,isn’t Meshech the Hebrew(which Israel currently speaks) name for Moscow?

5) Old Testament prophecies need to stay where they are — in the Old Testament. There is absolutely ZERO reason to believe that an ancient prophecy is about to come to pass RIGHT NOW. The prophecies of that age were misinterpreted by pretty much every single person in the Bible. They are NEVER easy to see or interpret. I think the chances of angels breaking open seven seals and unleashing plagues upon the land in the near future are somewhat less than the chances that they DON’T break open seven seals and unleash plagues.

Let’s look at some basic facts to keep all of this in the proper perspective.
1) There is no replacement for oil that is as economically efficient as oil. We can go to solar and nuclear power and have cars that are propelled by rainbow sunshine, and the technology will work, but we’ll be paying two and three times what we would pay for oil. This simple reality affects how we must act in global politics.
2) We benefit tremendously by being the world’s policeman. As much as it costs, and as busy as we stay with worrying over the actions of other countries, we gain enough to make it worthwhile. It is better to be Rome than to be the barbarian tribes.
3) These little buttcrack countries are dangerous only in the sense of a hornet’s nest. Iran will not destroy the US. Neither will Al Quaeda or Pakistan. If it comes down to all-out war, they cannot hope to stand against us. The US will be victorious. However, we don’t particularly want to get stung by the hornet if it can be avoided.
4) Russia isn’t our friend. They never have been. Whatever glimmer of hope they had back with Yeltsin is long gone. They’re going to stay in Georgia as long as they feel like it, pushing around the little kid to show how tough they are to the other kids in the Eastern European playground. We need to establish bases in those countries as quickly as is feasible to prevent them from doing this again and again and again.
