Fascinating. Here is the Cyber Warfare Doctrine mentioned in the interview:

If anyone is interested, I recently had a research paper about Chinese Cyber Warfare published in the journal Culture Mandala and featured on Slashdot:

I would have liked to have heard his thoughts on academic institutions. For example, which universities does he consider leaders in this emerging field? Or what aspects of Cyber Warfare would be most marketable as a PhD proposal.
The leaders in cyber warfare research are not the Universities,it is in small companies supporting the defense and intelligence agencies and companies like Dell. As for PhD proposal topics here you go.
1. Automated detection of malicious code in software.
2. Tools and methods for detecting malicious functions in firmware / bios
3. Cyber warfare strategies and tactice for deominating the information space.
4. Cyber wargaming methodologies and simulations
5. Counterfeit computer hardware detection methods and techniques
