See, it’s with stuff like this that the Marines loose the credibility required to say things like “Uh oh, someone gave the [Coasties/Zoomies/Squids/other military punching bag of choice] rifles!”

nice to see they have some down time. AND they are not comporting themselves any different than a gang of unsupervised paratroopers.
When the cat aka the E-7, is away, well you get the picture.
Let those who have never been an E-2 skeeter wing joe snuffy gripe.

Sad this has been made public. sad because good men will get disciplined for these actions. Sad also that they did not know enough or have the sense to not video the event.

When I was a little kid, my dad taught me two very important lessons: 1) A gun is not a toy and 2) never point a gun at anything you don’t intend to kill. That advice has saved my life and the life of men around me. Why these guys were never taught respect for the firearms they carry is beyond me. Has the service really become this lax?
And if anyone calls this the results of boredom, I call BS. The results of boredom are card playing, driving stuff through swamps until they get stuck, streaking, practical jokes and other dumb, harmless things. Sticking the end of a weapon in your mouth then discharging it at a fellow soldier is simply outrageous.
    Shameful.

First off, these are not soldiers, these are Marines. Sadly they are not acting like Marines. This is embarrrasing for the Corps, and these individuals. This video give the Marine Corps, and the country a bad name.
There is no excuse for this behavior, no matter where you are. Why the F would you treat a weapon like a toy? Even worse a loaded weapon. They ignored every weapon safety rule the Corps has.
I understand being shot at is stressful beyond belief, but why do people find it funny to film themselves being stupid? And then post it on the internet.
These Marines should be punished, and made an example of. One, you never treat weapons like this. Don’t post this stuff where other people can see.

This is one of several reasons I got out of the military after 10 years of service. These new kids are nuts and don’t give a rat’s ass about weapons safety or the image that they should be projecting 24/7 whether on camera or off! I’m just shocked that more of them aren’t coming back in body bags due to “friendly fire.” Don’t get me wrong. We had our share of dirty bags back in the day, but … we made sure that they didn’t last long or were taken out of harms way.

    Hi,
I’m French LO agent and for the first time I post here.
I read here before that french army sucks, are cowards, are sissies blablabla… but during my duty and actually I had never seen something so stupid.
But more awful is to see this on a military forum.
This dumbass video will put pitiful opinion to neutral people and will be a great opportunity for all morons who are allergic to uniform or middle east engagement.
This kind of behaviour deserve every people who serves.

    GreG,
If anyone can’t talk about US soldiers no matter what, it is the French. Go crawl back into your hole and stop thinking you can turn your nose up to the United States military, the worst of which still puts your pathetic military to shame.

You folks complaining about these kids are the ones who can’t wait for a nanny state. Maybe not the sharpest thing ever done but certainly not the crime or dishonor so many of you say it is. Get a sense of humor. I bet those kids are good to go when it counts.

these are the guys that I would have to keep an eye on in my section– good in a fight, but also likely to get us in one. sad fact of it is that physically brave 20-year-olds are pretty cheap, smart ones are a little harder to find.

With my sense of humor I could argue that if even a Frenchie feel worry with this video it’s really a problem.
And amazingly Us citizen seems to agree with me.
More seriously, I don’t think that you take care of the nationality of the men on your side when you are under the same fire; like yours and ours on a-stan. French problem reside more in politics than really in military capabilities and I don’t post to insult anyone or even compare Us military to anyone else due to the technical, financial, numerous gap with every other countries.
But like I fell shame for us when Us troops march past on the Champs Elysee at WWII victory celebration under whistle, I feel shame for you when I see a video like this, destroying the attempt to support you on this side of the pound.
This guys could be russian, chinese or even french I will post the same comment. You don’t do this with firearms. Never.
Particularly in my place of birth we knows what we owe to Us Soldiers. But time passed since WWII when my grandfather shared the few coffee he had with G.I of the 5th Infantry Division on his home.
And never ours troops on the field (suez, dien bien phu, algeria…) dishonoring their uniforms.
    I won’t write the same with politicians…
You could think what you want but don’t miss your real foe in this “green war”.

I don’t see the problem with the video. I would trust these guys with my life. You honestly think they are any different than any other US soldier during any other war? You think the guys in WWII just sat around playing cards? Hell no, stuff got interesting. Just be thank full they aren’t going around sodomizing sheep or testing out their armor with live fire. As to the French gentleman. There is a reason why you make fun of your military, its cause it has a horrible track record, try winning a war and it will stop.

I wonder what their Gunny is having them do now? Really, I won’t pretend I didn’t do stupid things up until I was junior NCO (I admit I was promoted too fast to Sgt), but you can be damned sure I didn’t do it with cameras rolling. Since we are a video nation now, this kind of goofing off is just going to get harder and harder to do without it biting you in the rear. That SHOULD discourage horseplay even more in the future, but it is up to the NCOs to keep things from getting as surreal as the environment.

TDS4S hit the nail on the head.
As a platoon leader, I would have had no choice but to stop stuff like this if I were present but I knew my guys might have done stuff like this when I or another SNCO wasn’t around.
All you can do as a leader is remind them that this is how parents end up getting a folded flag and a visit from the brass with condolences.
There is utopia and there is the real world. These guys are living in the real world. No — they wouldn’t have a leg to stand on if something went wrong but it is what it is.
Joes will be Joes (in this case Marines)and I would still want them on my side any day of the week.
PS– folks need to stop acting so shocked and accept that young fighting men will be EDGY and at times unnecessarily unsafe.

    They’re not.
And anyone who would trust their lives to an idiot — is also an idiot. Messing around with loaded firearms is not the act of a professional, and I can’t see why you would expect them to be any smarter in action.
