As a liberal lurker on this site for few years, I’d just like to point out to all you Republican nay-sayers that Obama is being incredibly moderate, realistic, and pragmatic in his decision making. Even MAX BOOT is saying that his defense picks are great and could be made by John McCain.
While discretion is the better part of valor, I would like to take this moment to point out that many of you were wrong about Barack Hussein Obama. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
Conservatives do not have a monopoly on defense They not the only patriots willing to shoot a bad guy or risk their lives for the USA. Military experience, moreover, is not a prerequisite for smart and strong leadership on defense.
I thought “Bring back Rummy” was a joke… but he has 20% of the votes!
Excellent choice and one that he didn’t have to much to work with. With 2 open fronts and almost 7 years in progress, who else would have been up to the job?
Jojo.. the man hasn’t even taken office yet. lets see how he performs before you make with the “I told you so” stuff. I hope and pray he will do what you suggest and that he truly is a moderate. If he turns out to be another Carter… god help us.
Conservatives don’t have a monopoly on defense? Well it sure seems that way the way with the agenda of so many liberals these days. They keep on talking about slashing the military budget by up to 25%, forcing the military to remove the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, and buying things they think best for the military and not the real military leadership! You liberals in general would rather focus on shoving gay marriage down our throats, or creating more gun bans than actually solving the real problems.
Obama is one of the few who — thanks to his recent national security briefings at the White House — has a clear picture of the rationales that guided W. Bush’s actions for the last 7 years. Oddly enough, Obama may now be one of the few Democrats in the United States who thinks W. Bush did a fairly good job in office– at least in terms of military operations and homeland security.
