Dep. SECDEF Out

From Defense Link:

Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England said today that he will not be staying with Secretary Gates in the Obama Administration. I congratulate President-Elect Obama for retaining Bob Gates as secretary, angordon england.jpgd I salute Bob Gates for his continued commitment, England said.
However, its time for me to leave. When I came into government in early 2001, I anticipated serving for two to four years. After almost eight years, its now time for me to turn over the reins to a successor. Also, its most appropriate for the new administration to name its own deputy.
England said he will stay for some time past Jan. 20, if requested, to assure a smooth transition.
England added, Its been an astonishing time to serve the nation under President Bush and alongside Secretaries Don Rumsfeld and Bob Gates, each of whom I greatly admire. I thank the brave men and women of our military, and their families, for their service and sacrifice, and for the honor of serving them.

Aside: Probably a fair share of celebrating over at Lockheed right now (and not just because they landed a ginormous satellite contract), England was one of the staunchest opponents of the F-22.
–John Noonan

I’d be interested to know if you think this new illuminati government will be against nuclear weapons along with F-22s?

Illuminati huh? Anyways, I do know Vice President Elect Biden just received a breifing on nuclear proliferation and the nuclear missiles budget will probably be hit.
I have to ask, what’s wrong with the nuclear weapons we already have? We could already end life on earth if we decided to fire them off.

Well Illuminati and spam aside. This makes me cautiously optimistic. With England out and Richard Danzig in as a virtual SecDef understudy, I’m hopeful we’ll get a little more change in the DoD (which hopefully includes a few more F-22s).

I have to agree this is a good development also. I understand most of the peoples reservations about the f-22 costs. But what should we do about the future? The f-15’s are pretty darn old at this point, do we buy several hundredmore advanced f-15e/k to replace the 600 c’s or do we buy the 381 f-22’s the airforce has requested, or do we compromise down the middle. Bottom line, the c should either be upgraded if possible which it seems not since one split in half in mid air, or we buy more jets, but something has to give, we can’t devote our entire defense budget to these 2 wars and forget about future advisories because we think we have advanced past world wars.
