Defense Budget Released (kind of)

Here’s the Pentagon specific portion of the Obama budget, just released. No commentary as of yet, still have to read it.
Update – Reader Bdwilcox had me laughing with this comment, down below: Why bother reading it? Congress voted on an $800 billion “stimulus package” without reading it, so why should we hold you to a higher standard? Just comment away…
Heh, right on.

533.7 B, 4% increase. Accounts for things that were previously funded via emergency supplemental “that should be included in base”.
Increase army to ~547k and marines to ~202k
2.9% payraise “for men and women in uniform”. Across the board? Averaged? Wondering how it differs between enlisted/NCO/officers.
Concurrent receipt of retired pay and disabled comp.
“Reforms Acquisition” is sadly only a paragraph, and the one most relevant to defensetech.

“Just released” — more than 24 hours ago. On the ball as usual.

Depends on the details. No money for RRW or any strategic systems. Cuts to modernization under the guise of useless “Cold War” systems.
Watch the military be converted to another welfare program. Weapons will be cut and replaced with healthcare, housing, etc. (not that these things aren’t important just should not expand at the expense of the other) America will have a well fed garrison force unable to project military power. That is my personal prediction if the Dems and leftists stay in power for an extended period.

Just informed speculation based on what the likes of Barney Frank, Murtha, obama and Taucher have said over and over and over again.

I’d be willing to bet that ditching the Cheney/Bush paradigm will be cost effective. By using the State Department for diplomacy the Pentagon budget could be reduced by much more. The chances of another world wide ground war is getting near zero. Monies could be more effectively spent by building up the Navy to 500 ship fleet, with humanitarian aid as it’s focus, would do more for U.S. security than fighter/bomber. 10 years ago the U.S. had an approval rating over 70%, just sayin’.

I remember when the military was a well regarded training program, kind of like apprenticeship training. Now it’s a gang recruitment program. I think Obama wants to return to the old standards.

Ahhh, Defensetech. You have such wonderful readers.
What I want to know about is where these baby killing worms are. That is totally badass. Like they crawl in from out of the garden, and attack some Iranian nursery school. Trained worms. Awesome.

I’m a soldier hating liberal? Lampshade, maybe you need to turn on your sarcasm meter. Or learn to read.

One of those wonderful press releases which says nothing of importance that we didn’t already know. This may indicate, indeed probably does indicate, that the Pentagon and National Security Council and OMB haven’t reached ageement on the other points.
