nice catch Peter, the F1s have been phased out for some time now and I was wondering how the boom found its way to a SA plane..are there still F1s in Chad?

Yes the SAAF used Mirage F1s as its primary fighter/fighter-bomber during the Angolan conflict. There is a book “Vlamgat” that describes their use.
Unfortunately the video is not of SAAF F1s. They are French F1s stationed in Chad. The SAAF F1s did not have the aerial refueling probe as the F1s in the video have. This clip has shown up in various forms.
The SAAF trained their pilots to fly low due to the layered Russian made SAM systems in Angola. It actually reduced training accidents and led to very few combat losses.
