Early reports said that Georgia shot down 10-21 airplanes, Russia claimed 4. Now the “Official” report is 6 planes were lost and now Russia, in an attempt to “save face”, I guess, are saying that they shot half of them down themselves by accident.
Yeah right… Russia attacked Georgia for the land and oil, their air force got their butts kicked and they are trying to cover it up…
Also, if Russia’s GPS system was working properly, Emperor Putin wouldn’t have killed so many Georgian civilians…

lol, okay, the pipeline that crosses Georgia can pump slightly more than 1 million barrels of crude oil per day, or more than 1 percent of the world’s daily crude output.
Over 200 civilians were killed in Russia’s “Peace Keeping” action compared to the 161 soldiers that were killed. Also, hundreds of thousands of people were displaced.
Because their GPS sucks, they used cluster bombs in civilian areas…
Looks like Russia is building up its troops in the Georgia area again.

Is Georgia a NATO member yet or not? I think the Georgia pipeline is just too tempting a target for Russia. The pipeline (the second longest in the world) connects to the Azerbaijan’s Caspian Sea fields, which is the world’s third-largest reserves, and provides oil to Western Europe.

1) Write a strongly worded letter telling the russians were sorry and that though there bad people were worse and we stole everything from the great russian people.

Looks like their intel is the suck to start a war over a measley 1%. Since when do the Russkies care about civilian casualties anyway? USAF kills more by accident. Their sorty rate must have been pretty pathetic for such a low tally. OTOH, they are probably hard up for avgas. I only saw COIN plinkers on TV – nothing with more than 2 engines flying. So oil it is then.

Yes, that’s why more than 20% of the (enormous) Federal budget goes to DoD and defense-related programs. Because we’re disarming ourselves.

This is the wrong place for this, but I feel I need to. Getting tired of every one of these comment threads during into an “Obama Bash”.

There will always be fringe groups that either want the U.S. to become a military state or want to cut military spending to nothing. Those people aren’t in power and have no pull in modern politics. Yes, some of them are in Congress, but how many of their proposals are getting any tractions?
Military spending is increasing 4% (or 2%, or 9%… really depends who you ask) in 2010. That’s higher than the rate of inflation. It’s also higher than W. Bush was requesting. Kind of odd to complain about Obama when he’s actually requesting more than the previous administration did.
The “Obama is cutting spending” is pointed to because the Pentagon requested $60 billion more in 2010 than what was on the Bush plan. The administration declined and instead gave a smaller increase. But that is called a “cut” because it wasn’t what the Pentagon requested. The majority of the cuts to that $60 billion amount were made to the ABM program.
In 2010, the U.S. will spend over $600 billion on the military. In comparison, the threat most spoken about (China) is spending $100 billion.
But that’s cool. We can keep on screaming that Obama is gutting the military, despite the fact that it’s false, because people gotta be complaining about “liberals” and “Democrats”.
As for “doing nothing”, again I’m confused. Georgia was invaded during the Bush administration. Nothing was done. North Korea was given flowers and candy every time it threatened to spit. And yet people are pointing to Obama asking why he hasn’t cleaned up these messes? Hell, this administration’s stance on North Korea is stronger than any that has been taken since Reagan.
I by no means love Obama. I didn’t even vote for the guy. But this parroting of nonesense in every one of these threads is a pain in the ass. Can’t we talk about, you know, Defense Tech?
How much do you think your average soldier in China gets paid compared to his American counterpart? Or how much their engineers and workers in the factories get paid? Obama has cut missile defense programs, right when they seem they might actually be useful considering how the North Koreans are tossing missles everywhere? We have yet to see the replacement for the FCS MGV program, F-22A production has been cut far too much, the Navy is having all sorts of trouble getting 300+ ships, and there are new programs that need to start now, and that involves funding them. It isn’t a problem with the Democrats, although they are leaning too far to the damn left, it is the idiotic ideas of liberals in general, whose priorities are just wrong.
