Number of US carriers going down, down, down
Saddam’s missing Air Force found in Serbia (and here I thought we had shot it all down)
Hey so everyone’s upgrading their nuclear arsenals but us…
On my radar: FPRI’s Webcast on Afghan Police Reform
”…the enemy is not hiding, but they are in trenches, bunkers and fighting positions that extend into depth. The enemy owns the terrain.“
Cool: Carrier arresting gear gets a workover

in response to article 3:
after you make a major revision to a nuclear weapon you need to do at least one test to make sure it works.
testing a nuke explicitly nullifies all the arms limitation treaties we have with other nations. such an action would send Russia’s reamament program into overdrive. I am not saying this would put us back into the cold war but it would get pretty chilly.
a specific question she asks “If Iran gets the bomb, what
You cant argue for either side. You let them have it.
“Saddam’s missing Air Force found in Serbia (and here I thought we had shot it all down)”
Naw, I remember when what was left of their air force (we destroyed most on the ground, didn’t we?) made a mad dash for the Iranian border. I thought there were 21 or so planes. Must have moved them to Serbia, though, to be perfectly honest, I never expected the Iranians would ever give them up.
ha, good eye with the Israelis Capt O. Not as obvious as the *terrible* use of Top Gun scenes, but still funny.
Still, plenty of good solid fight SADF/Cuban fight scenes… and I especially liked how the SADF MRL added it’s own percussion to “Battle Hymns.” It’s like the 1812 Overture on meth.
The US also did not help and actually condemned Portugal (a NATO member) in its counter-insurgency in Angola, Guinea and Mo
I am not going to applaud for the SADF of apartheid South Africa. They were a very professional military force but they were the military instrument of a racist political regime that suppressed the basic human rights of the majority of its own people. The same apartheid regime also unlawfully and militarily intervened in Namibia and I remember that SADF forces were unjustifiably killing SWAPO guerillas that were armed with only infantry weapons well after a formal cease fire had been formally declared. In other words, the SADF of apartheid South Africa were extremely competent and effective but they were not “angels.” I salute the integrated SADF of the current Republic of South Africa that today plays a crucial role in peacekeeping missions in war-ravaged countries in Africa and continues to exhibit its traditional level of military professionalism.
It’s sad to see the emasculation of the Navy over the last 15 years or so, but it’s even sadder when I see a story saying there will only be 10 or maybe nine carriers in the fleet soon. I still remember Reagan’s 600-ship fleet goal for the Navy (I was active duty Navy 79-85).
I realize that ships cost a lot more nowadays, but something just doesn’t seem right with such a tiny Navy for a world Superpower like the United States. Putting all your eggs in one basket is a mighty poor strategy, if you ask me.
Good catches in the SADF video, CPT Obvious (except the Top Gun… even PFC Obvious would have caught that). Anyone else catch the dude speaking German? You can hear him say “schweinehunde” at about 4:18. And nice shot of the tank (T-55?) being destroyed on the hilltop by the missile around 1:00… that’s from a video of a HMMWV test firing a LOSAT 2 at Aberdeen or someplace. I have the full video which someone emailed me 5 or 6 years ago.
Who’s responsible for this fraud?
The whole video is made with sound extracts from Saving Private Ryan, I recognize many of its explosions and gunfire. So that’s why you heard “schweinehunde”
@Capt. Obvious, John

The R4 is a 5.56mm assault rifle that was introduced into service with the SADF in the early 1980s …The weapon is a licensed variant of the Israeli Galil ARM assault rifle with several modifications;
“godless commies” ??
Someone needs to do a little more research…
Ever heard of Nelson Mandela?
If you’re siding with apartheid SA…you are on the wrong side.
Well, if I’m going to support Israel I see no reason why I wouldn’t support South Africa?
Yes, let us remember Nelson Mandela. Archtype terrorist and if not for RSA legal system he would have been hung immediately. RSA as more advanced country in Africa or as it is now with at best third world status, major crime rate, and no longer recognized as world class universities or medical schools?
