I can put headphones on at a gun range but I can still feel the pressure waves from the heavier guns. Amplify that by a hundred and see what it feels like.

These devices vibrate tissue and bone not just sound loud. I have been around an LRAD with earplugs, and they didn't help anywhere near as much as I thought they would. It brought it from a painful level to a very uncomfortable level. I would not by any means call these devices defeated by common hearing protection.

Headphones and earplugs are effective, but only give you about 20 dB of reduction in sound pressure levels. In any case, these devices do not appear to be proven effective and there are obvious countermeasures.

In DTI this article is credited to Sharon Weinberger.

In any case, these devices do not appear to be proven effective and there are obvious countermeasures.

By: Philo

<guid

Use sonic beams to implode caverns.
Would have been neat in Nam in the VC tunnel areas.
Today set up device & beam UVF into some caverns & see the enemy pour out for shooting.
Or for PD SWAT Use & for Prison Inmate mass Control.
Very Cool.
Make 180 arc or narrow beam wave.
Great for warships too.
Disrupt pirate vessels off Somalia.

Use this on the US Mex border & Afganistan alone.<br

If it is disorienting to humans what effect would it have on a whale, or even fish for that matter. Don't get me wrong, Im not a bleeding heart tree hugger but we have to look at the all around effect these "non-lethal" weapons have. Its a weight and balance system. Destroy Ecosystem vs. blow the pirate boat up. I vote blowing the pirate boat up.

One of my concerns as to the use of this in a maritime enviroment would be the damage it could cause to aquatic life.
