Reliable sources are telling me the US recently shut down a massive arms shipment to the Republic of Georgia because the country was working with the Israelis on a strike against Iran.
My weapons and private security sources tell me that Georgian officials were stunned when the Obama administration halted the flight of a planeload (or several) of weapons, including small arms, helicopters and “heavy weapons.” Apparently, the shipment of US-made equipment was stopped by the White House, going around DoD and State, my sources tell me.
The reasons are twofold and admittedly speculative, since my sources are talking to the Georgian side who are perplexed. One, the Russians may have pressured the administration to halt the deal, preferring to sell the arms to the Georgians themselves — or NOT have the US sell the weapons to them. Second, and more controversial, apparently the Israelis have been in close negotiations with the Georgians to use airfields around Tbilisi as a hopping point for a strike against Iran’s nuclear capability. My sources say 3,000 Israeli advisors and military people are in Georgia right now.
If you look at a map, it’s a long route, but Israeli planes would have to fly over Turkey (which is a very close ally) and Georgia and a very small sliver of Russia to reach the Caspian, where it can fly unencombered to points in Iran. My back of the napkin/Google Earth calculation is that the trip would be a little over 2,000 miles from Jerusalem to Esfahan. How would Russian let Israeli planes fly over its territory on a trip to blow up Iranian reactors which Moscow has helped build? My sources aren’t sure, but maybe the diplomatic hassle of doing business with Iran is outweighed by an under the table agreement to buy Georgia’s arsenal through Russian companies and transport, thereby handing more control of Tbilisi’s affairs to Moscow.

I have been waiting for the other shoe to drop. What was the price Obama paid Russia for opening the supply routes to the Stan? First, the missile shield of Europe is canceled. (Supposedly we will deploy land-based SM-3s in the future, right after the Israeli/Iran peace treaty) Now arms shipments to Georgia is stopped. Maybe Georgia will join Taiwan in the Club-of-US-Allies-Dumped-For-Political-Expediency. I don't believe Obama is Muslim. These days he seems to be bowing toward Moscow and Beijing.
Russia, it's clear now, will never be a firend or ally to the United States. And by never I mean as long as any of us is alive. I don't want to explain why, just take it as empirical truth. Just like existence of dark matter. China may some day become like Japan vis-a-vis the US (hopefully without us having to nuke a few of their cities). Russia will always be confrontational. Everything that has to do with foreign policy needs to take that fact into consideration.
It's entirely possible that Georgian arms help was traded for the supply transit for Afghanistan. If so, fine. We need that transit more than we need semi-crazy authoritarian rusophobic pin-head in charge of a small inconsequential nation in a middle of nowhere. Without the US help that regime will fold and hopefully somebody who knows how to live within their political means gets elected. God forbid they do join NATO.

To the naysayers against Israel echoing the Judean people's front in Life of Brian, "What has Israel ever done for us?" start checking how many of US military weapons systems are reliant on Israeli tech.
As to taking your money, typical that you don't get that the Aid is conditional on Israel using it to purchase US military equipment e.g. F-16's, APC's, uniforms, kitbags and yes crummy M16's and M-4's instead of the superior Tavor bullpup.
Thanks to Israel's current PM Netanyahu the Tavor could be produced because many parts are made in the US using the Aid. Israel supports the US economy and provides all this advanced mil-tech that they develop and what do they get for it? Bleeding heart liberals, and bigots ignorant of who their allies are.

Ok what? Um what Israeli technology do we use that helps the US economy? The only Israeli thing I got out of your post was the Tavor. Parts made in america…..so what? Work on Israeli hi-tech huh? Right.
Turkey WILL allow them to fly over – if the right palms are greased. After all, the Syrian got the hell out of their way when the first Iraqi SCUDs hit Israel and they launched their "Ready" birds – which carry nukes. The turks could use this to get European Jewsih help in getting them entry to the EU for one thing.
And, if the Israelis actually DO have 3000 IAF ground support folks in Georgia already – they already have negotiated agreements by Turkey, Russai and Azerbajan. Perhaps THAT is why this shipment was cancelled – could very well be a Russian demand the Israelis brokered. After all – that gives them the air power reach they need to take out Iranian Nuke facilities and SHAHAB-3 sites in Iran with PGMs. Avoiding nuclear war in the Middle East in exchange for cancelling US weapons sales to Georgia – that's not a bad trade folks.
No matter what the current administration does and some people here say, Israel, like Britian, is one of our closest and respected friends. We deal with terror from afar, Israel deals with it every day. Israel also shares her technology with us and we mutually develop many weapon systems.

Generally speaking the best solution would be to evacuate both Israel and Taiwan to the US. We will get several millions very educated and culutred people and save immeasurable amounts of money and grief going out into future forever. Which might happen anyway. does anyonre really think that the US will go to war with China over Taiwan? Or vice versa. Eventually Taiwan will join China on its own, and all the money we spent protecting it will be wasted. And while we are at it, do you think South Korea is ready to protect itself already? They are an economical giant and the North is a sickly gnat, buy and build your own weapons for your own soldiers. China will not pour troops in like the last time. If Seoul gets nuked, we can nuke something in the North out of sympathy, but for crying out loud take 60,000 troops out of there.

Everyone is ffixated on an aircraft strike. Israel has Jericho II IRBM's that can reach any point in Iran. A one kiloton nuke detonated at 300 feet below the surface will pretty well destroy any bunker known to God or man. Minimal radiation and collatral damage.
