Video: Gadhafi’s ‘Ludicrously Luxurious’ Airbus A340

by John Reed on September 6, 2011

Enjoy these videos (below the jump) showing the interior of the Airbus A340 jet that served as Gadhafi’s personal plane. I wonder how much space in the cargo hold was taken up by the colonel’s infamous tent?

So what? You ever seen the interior of Air Force One? It makes this A340 look like a joke.

This article isn't about the aircraft, it is about the comparison in quality of life for Libyans. You can't make that comparison in the US because the president is not the ceiling as far as quality of life is concerned.

Why does the AF1 need to be some posh?

For all intense purposes, Air Force One is not that posh in comparison to other luxury air craft. It is a purpose built aircraft that allows the President and his cabinet to work while on the go. Air Force One carts around 35 – 70 people at any given time; its not the president's plaything – Nobody really likes to sit in jumbo jets unless you're the one flying it.

Posh'ness comes in the form of missile defenses and radar jamming, but I think you would expect that in a aircraft that flies the commander-in-chief around.

*for all intents and purposes

It's, "intents and purposes", moron.

AF1 isn't that cushy. There are some nice seats (equivalent to trans-Atlantic first class), some meeting rooms, some rest areas/beds, and a TON of communications gear. It also serves as a mobile command center for the CIC, it's not simply a flying ego.

So he's a dictator, what did you expect? Of course he's going to live off his people's dime like a king. Our politicians do. At least billionaires and millionaires earned their money by forging sucessful companies and hiring thousands of people

"At least billionaires and millionaires earned their money…"

Your naivety is staggering. The majority of billionaires and millionaires didn't work for their money, they inherited it. Sorry to burst your "rugged individualist" bubble.

Sev never said anything about the "majority" of billionaires and millionaires, he just said they earned their money by forging successful companies and hiring thousands of people. I think the majority though, regardless of how they made it or inherited it, invest in successful companies that hire thousands of people, or they spend it on 'stuff' from successful companies that hire thousands of people.

The video of Gadhafi's home and now his private Airbus A340 strips away the facade Gadhafi tried to promote of living modestly while in actuality, Gadhafi was living like a billionaire.

Wonder if the hangar for this A340 was a ridiculously large tent….
