The Missile Defense Agency issued a warning to its employees in July to stop surfing porn sites with government computers, according to a Bloomberg report.
Executive Director John James Jr. had to issue a memo to employees telling them to stop watching porn at work and sending pornographic pictures and messages from their MDA computers. James went on to explain that those employees who continue to spend time looking at the wrong rockets risk losing their security clearances, suspensions, and even their jobs.
Bloomberg’s Tony Capaccio obtained the memo discovering it was issued after only six out of more than 8,000 employees at MDA were caught surfing porn sites. Software that protects against cyber attacks also alerted the authorities to visits to these websites since so many are laced with viruses and malware downloads.
Chase Cunningham, chief of cyber analytics at Sterling, Virginia-based Decisive Analytics Corporation, told Bloomberg that sites with high-quality imagery, porn or not, run as risks for harboring cyber attacks as hackers can hide malicious code on the sites used to hack unsuspecting users.

I work with OCD, compulsive and depressed people as a volunteer. A large number of OCD folks are sexually compulsive (no big surprise). But, a lot of depressed people self medicate by surfing porn instead of just with drugs and alcohol. A lot of them are 6 figure professionals. So, let's not think this is just a problem with 18 year old privates. Plenty of colonels are out there compulsively surfing porn.
So fire them. I have OCD too. I will never let it affect my nations itegrity.

Every single employment contract I've seen in the last 25 years explicitly notes that viewing porn on company owned devices is grounds for termination. Yet these people may or may not have gotten just a memo instead of a pink slip? Really? And on systems that likely run classified data too? Really? I would imagine that MDA will send a fairly stern e-mail when you walk out their doors with one of their computers and sell it to Iran too. I feel safer already….
They were wrong and should be fired, but rest assured that the SIPRNET is completely separate from the Internet … so no porn was watched on classified systems. Its impossible as there are no classified porn websites on the SIPRNET which is wholly DOD owned.

These people have a mental and moral problem. I really think that we need to expect more from these at MDA or any govenmental department. If they have so much time on their hands to surf porn; we are doing something seriously wrong. That kind of stuff will rot your brain, and ruin your life. Actions like this in the public sector will get you fired in a heart beat.

Funny, this has been govt policy since computers became a tool of the trade! All govt computers I've worked with have blocks build in and if they are defeated, the managers routinely check your sites. Really grat security at Missile command!! Makes me feel secure in the knowledge that our nuke missles are in such trused hands!!

Are you kidding? Why doesn't the MDA IT folks block the porn sites? In 2003, before blocking was implemented, a defense contractor was fired after the IT folks caught him surfing porn sites on weekend shifts. He was gone in three days. He lost his job, security clearance and wife as a result pretty much ruining his future employment prospects.

SAIC has the missle defense contract …just google that up to confirm… And SAIC does permit this kind of behavior at government work sites and I have the evidence to prove it.
